The money in the dispensary cash register did not balance

Every so often, come the end of the day, the money in the register will be a dollar short or a dollar over.

This is normal when dealing with money transactions.

Any sales clerk could grab a nickel instead of a quarter or a quarter instead of a dime. Or they might grab a couple of $1 bills instead of three or three instead of 2. This manner of mistake will happen from time to time. They should not happen frequently. I hired a new employee named Al to work at the counter in the medical marijuana dispensary. All of us only take cash money transactions, so our employees have to deal with thousands of dollars every day. Al started now working on Sunday. Al was running the money register all afternoon. At the end of the day, her register was short $5. Since it was Al’s first time now working at the marijuana dispensary, I did not say anything about the short balance. The next day, Al’s register was even shorter. This time there was $23 missing from the till. I asked Al to speak with me when she was done with her shift. I told her about the missing currency from that day and the previous day. Al did not have a lot to say, however she did not make excuses either. I don’t assume Al is pocketing the currency. It would be strenuous to steal from the business, because there are cameras all over the dispensary. Still, it is time to find another position for this particular employee. Al might do better in the stock room or fulfilling orders.
