For the last three years I have worked as a budtender, and finally I got a chance for a promotion.
When you work in a very small business there is not a lot of room for advancement.
If you are in a major corporation, or work for a college, you can transfer and promote your way up the ladder. Here there is no “ladder” there are only six employees! The boss decided to open a smokers lounge that adjoins the cannabis dispensary, and he put me in charge of managing it. My first thought was to find creative ways to promote the lounge, and help draw in fresh business to the cannabis dispensary. As a huge fan of movies, I thought that screening a series of cannabis themed films would be a great way to get people into the store. The customers of the cannabis dispensary come and go with alarming quickness. They buy their cannabis products and then leave immediately, and my job is to get them to stick around. How much more money would the cannabis dispensary make if all the customers hung around for an hour or two, just watching movies and having fun? There are probably a lot of other great ways to get the dispensary clients to stick around a little longer, but the film festival is the best idea I currently have. I will start with some of the cannabis classics, like Cheech & Chong, Dazed and Confused, and Half Baked. Or maybe should start with Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, because they smoke a lot of cannabis in that film.
