There have been major improvements in federal laws over the last 10 years, despite the obvious setbacks.
For one, gay marriage is no longer taboo, nor is it illegal anywhere in the country.
A landmark Supreme Court case in 2015 opened the door for gay marriage nationwide. As some states were already legalizing gay marriage within their borders, an important case was making its way to the Supreme Court. This case was eventually responsible for striking down every single statewide ban on gay marriage from one end of the country to the next. Another huge sea change happened with the 2014 Farm Bill. Suddenly the marijuana plant was reclassified as only cannabis varieties with more than 0.3% of delta-9-THC, opening the door for CBD heavy strains that are now under the umbrella of industrial “hemp.” This legal grey area was reaffirmed with the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, thus giving scientists and researchers the freedom to extract and study hundreds of different cannabinoids in the marijuana plant. With selective breeding, growers can isolate strains that are higher in particular cannabinoids to aid in the extraction process. For instance, CBG is so difficult to extract that scientists have moved toward total artificial synthesis of the compound. Synthesized CBG is both safe and consistent in its quality and potency. But you can also order bulk CBD, CBC, and CBN isolates and distillates. It’s amazing to see some of these products at grocery stores and pharmacies, especially as traditional cannabis remains illegal at the federal level. Hopefully it’s only a matter of time before marijuana is rescheduled by the DEA.
