I had not seen my cousin Jane since we were teenagers.
At the time we were very close, in part because neither of us had any siblings.
We were the only two cousins in our small family, so we decided at long last we needed to get together again. If it weren’t for social media we might not have reconnected at all, but thanks to Facebook and all the down time due to COVID, we decided I would come visit her out in the country for a few days. In all the time we had talked, Jane never mentioned that she grew cannabis on her farm, so that was a nice surprise. At the end of a long, exhausting day she and I would walk out through the corn and the potato fields to the little plot of cannabis she had growing nearby. She had planted it right near the back corner of her property line, so if the cannabis plants were discovered by a forest ranger she would have plausible deniability on them. “No officer, those aren’t my marijuana plants, they are just growing there, what a mystery!” We would hand pick a few choice, juicy cannabis buds and then walk back to her ranch house and spend the rest of the evening smoking out. It turns out she was growing some really high octane cannabis out there, even for an experienced smoker like me. I asked if she considered growing and selling it commercially, but she said that she only grew cannabis for personal use, and nothing more.
